Track & Trace

Track & Trace is the process of recording the past and present whereabouts of a shipment, as it passes through different handlers on its way to its destination, through a distribution network.

Examples of start points might include an individual posting a letter or parcel or a manufacturer making and dispatching a product.

Typical applications for Track & Trace are to identify where a product was "diverted" from its intended course, or where a fake product was introduced.

In logistics, tracking and tracing is the concept of locating property that is being forwarded from an origin to a destination through various hubs thereby determining the location and status of such objects. Usually this concept is supported by means of reckoning and reporting the position of all vehicles transporting the containers in question. This can also be done by recording the arrival or departure of the object during loading and unloading.
